Welcome from the Principal

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Queen’s Gate. We are a day school for girls aged 4-18, located in South Kensington, on the edge of the capital’s educational and cultural heartland, the perfect place to inspire and indulge young hearts and minds. Our close-knit community of around 500 pupils is a special one. Our central London home affords us a diverse, multinational intake, our size allows us to know every girl as an individual, and our desire to feel ‘unschooly’ is brought to life in touches such as our lack of uniform.

We are unashamedly proud of our pupils’ many successes. We aim to provide a learning environment in which girls feel enabled and empowered to stretch themselves both intellectually and personally. We seek for each of our girls to develop a lifelong love of learning: a readiness to question, an appetite for knowledge and the self-belief that they will find their way through any challenge. Alongside this, in line with our core values, we encourage character traits of compassion and consideration, respect and integrity. We delight in the authenticity we see emerge in our girls, their confidence to be their true selves and their enjoyment of discovering, developing and demonstrating their own personal gifts and talents.

Throughout this website you will find evidence of our achievement of our aims, whether that is the list of schools our Junior School girls go onto for their secondary education, details of our extra-curricular programme, news items on recent speakers or a compendium of our Upper Sixth leavers’ destinations. However, a website can never truly convey the spirit and warmth to be found inside our Victorian walls, and so I would very much welcome you and your daughter to take advantage of one of our open events or book a private tour to see for yourself what Queen’s Gate is all about. We are so looking forward to meeting you.

Amy Wallace
Principal

Miss Amy Wallace became the ninth Principal of Queen’s Gate in September 2022. Formerly Senior Deputy Head at St. Catherine’s, Twickenham, Miss Wallace’s teaching career has included stints at Wycombe Abbey as a teacher and Housemistress, and St. Francis College, Letchworth, as Head of Sixth Form. She has served as a governor at Badminton School, Bristol and Halliford School, Shepperton.

Miss Wallace was herself educated at the School of St. Helen and St. Katharine in Oxfordshire, before going up to Newnham College, Cambridge, to read History. She completed her BA in 2003, and an MPhil in American History in 2005. Miss Wallace took her PGCE at Hertford College, University of Oxford. When not teaching or studying, she has often been found on rivers, coxing for her university colleges, Furnivall Sculling Club and the Royal Air Force. These days her hobbies tend to be more land-based, taking advantage of London’s many museums and enjoying overseas travel. She lives in the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames, in a book-filled home that she shares with two naughty but adorable cats. Despite many invitations from Queen’s Gate girls both current and prospective, they are yet to make their own visit to the school.
