The Art Department at Queen’s Gate is an open, airy space that welcomes and encourages pupils to develop their creative talents at all levels. Inspirational images line the walls of the department from younger pupils alongside completed GCSE and A level work.
Reflecting the Art Department ethos, traditional approaches underpin teaching at all levels, with drawing, sculpture, printmaking and painting being taught throughout KS3 and in greater depth at GCSE and A level. Older pupils use their key artistic skills to enable them to express their own personal ideas as they progress through the school, allowing them to experiment widely with different art approaches and methods, culminating in confident, highly individual pieces.
All pupils are welcome to the Department outside of lesson time to pursue their own artistic interests and share creative time with their friends, allowing each pupil to feel that the Art Department is both a learning area and a relaxed, comfortable space where their instinctive creativity can flourish.
There are four members of staff, including the Head of Art and the technician who is responsible for the smooth running of the department.
Our students regularly visit galleries and art shows and our annual A level Art trips include Venice, Amsterdam and New York.
Students participate in various Art competitions and regularly win prizes and merits of achievements. Our annual Art exhibition of GCSE and A level art is held every year in June and welcomes parents, friends and other visitors who unanimously praise The Queen’s Gate Art talent.

Last term we hosted our annual careers convention, giving girls the chance to rotate through quick, informative chats with professionals from a variety of industries. The girls delved into the ins and outs of different careers, asking questions to help them understand more about different opportunities available to them. They left armed with lots of new information and buzzing with new ideas for their futures.
We were delighted to gather at Holy Trinity Church on Monday for our annual Christmas Carol Service. Featuring lessons, poetry, choral performances, and traditional carols such as Once in Royal David’s City, Silent Night, and O Come, All Ye Faithful, the service was a wonderful celebration of the season. Our sincere thanks to all staff, pupils, readers, and musicians who contributed to this special event.
Festivities were in full swing here at Queen`s Gate in the final weeks of term, They kicked off with the, much anticipated, annual Sixth Form Ice Skating trip! Pupils and staff showed off their impressive skills on the Ice at Battersea Power Station ice rink!
Once again, we have chosen to share our Christmas card for 2025 digitally, and redirect the funds typically spent on posting physical Christmas cards towards a special donation to our local foodbank.
This year, we took time to explore which food items are most needed and selected those essentials accordingly, alongside a variety of festive Christmas treats. Our Sixth Form girls volunteer at the foodbank each week, helping to weigh and sort donations, and they were thrilled to deliver such a plentiful haul this year. This is a cause they care about deeply, and being able to offer these extra gifts and essentials at this time of year is a source of great pride for us all.

After a long hiatus, The Log made a triumphant return at the end of this term. Carrying its traditional name, our School magazine was shared with families to enjoy over the Christmas break. With photos, reports and a special feature on the Bright Young Things, The Log is a celebration of all that passed here at Queen`s Gate over the 2024/2025 academic year. From imagination to icing! Congratulations to our Junior School winner Alexia and Senior School winner Isabelle, whose festive designs from our annual Christmas Cake Design Competition were transformed into stunning real cakes by QG old girl, Nicky Tesler. A truly sweet celebration of creativity!
Last Friday, girls from Reception to Year 2 took over St Stephen’s Church to perform their much-anticipated Nativity play for an audience of family and friends. After much time spent memorising lines, fine-tuning songs, and attempting choreography that occasionally resembled organised chaos, it all came together in a wonderfully entertaining show. From shepherds who forgot their sheep to angels who nearly lost their halos, the girls delivered a festive performance full of charm, humour, and just the right amount of unpredictability - exactly what a Nativity play should be!
