Queen's Gate Junior School in Music lesson playing the violin

Music

Music at Queen’s Gate School aims to play an invaluable role in the development of each and every pupil, enriching the lives of all who come to our school. We encourage and enthuse those of all abilities, with enjoyment and excellence at the heart of our provision.

We offer an engaging and practical syllabus, from our youngest pupils in Preliminary right up to A level, with specialist teachers throughout the Junior and Senior School.

Over half our girls have instrumental lessons with a broad range of instruments on offer, including singing, harp and drum kit.

We have many thriving musical ensembles and choirs that rehearse weekly. Ranging from Chamber Choirs who annually are asked to lead the charity Kids for Kids Christmas Concert, to our rock bands who always perform in each term’s Senior School final assembly, we make sure we have something for every pupil, whatever her level of musical experience or proficiency. Our Junior School puts on a musical each year and we have our highly contested House Music Competition annually.

The music department regularly puts on performance opportunities.  Individual performances in assemblies and instrument-specific teatime recitals provide girls with the opportunity to build confidence in a more relaxed setting.  We also hold much larger end-of-term concerts featuring a range of solo and ensemble performances. Our 130th Anniversary concert involved over 80 girls performing alongside a professional orchestra. Girls also take advantage of the wonderful opportunities to see and hear professional concerts and shows at a range of London venues.
