Mr William Gillen

Bill Gillen BA(English), MA,Cert Ed, is Chair of the Educational & Pastoral Committee and Lead Safeguarding Governor. He is a retired HMC headmaster with 18 years’ experience in two large independent co-educational day schools and has been a senior Governor in both a state boarding school and an independent girls’ day school. Bill is a member of the Worshipful Company of Educators, London.  

Educated at RBAI, Queen’s University, Belfast and St Catharine’s College, 

Cambridge, Bill became Head of English at Newcastle-under-Lyme School and then Deputy Head at RGS, Guildford with brief respites from the classroom to enjoy an English Speaking Union Travel Scholarship to the USA and a Schoolmaster Fellow Commonership at Pembroke College, Cambridge.  

He believes strongly in educating the ‘whole student’ by offering as comprehensive a curriculum as possible; and also in both pupil & staff exchanges worldwide.
