A Spring-y Concert!
Posted on 20 March 2018 by Miss Amy Hinds, Communications Officer
The annual Spring Concert is a fun-filled event; setting us all up ahead of the Easter Holidays with catchy tunes and happy songs, following the weeks of cold weather. The sunshine streamed in through the windows for the afternoon of Tuesday 20 March as pupils took to the stage in the Senior School Hall, eager to perform.
The concert began with the School’s Sinfonietta with A Scottish Celebration (during which many audience members were itching to get up and dance!) by Edward Huws Jones, and the Friday Singers with their beautiful version of Schubert’s To be Sung on the Water.
This was followed by solo performances from Andrada Durantel, Emiliana Taleghani and Isabella Taleghani on the piano, playing Brahms Prokofiev and Gershwin respectively. The Chamber Choir and Ladies Barbershop kept the pace moving with a fantastic version of the Carpenters, Close To You (Chamber Choir) and a Beatles double-bill of Blackbird and Do You Want to Know a Secret.
One of the afternoon’s highlights was Diane-Sophie Capelle and Beatrice Bru’s cello duet of Allegro from Duo in C Major by Kummer. The girls played with maturity and proficiency, and the audience clearly enjoyed the piece. The concert came to a close with the QGEES performance of Evacuation; which was first performed this year at the Remove Showcase earlier in March.
A truly wonderful afternoon of music-making from the Senior School this year; well done to all the girls and teachers alike for this triumph.
