Remove (Year 7)

Autumn Term

Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s 9th Symphony; basic music notation; African rhythms (including workshop outing); composition of a Fanfare in F (4 bars + semiquavers and quaver rhythms, phrases, dynamics & tempo); Danse Macabre by Saint-Saëns; early music including Gregorian Chant; Renaissance Madrigals; composition of a Fanfare in F and running tunes (4 bars + semiquavers and quaver rhythms, phrases, dynamics & tempo); singing in preparation for harvest festival, Remembrance Day and carol services.

Spring Term

New Year Concert from Vienna, the March and the Waltz; singing in preparation for the Remove Showcase; instrument families and the orchestra; Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra by Britten.

Summer Term

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons; revision for summer examinations; singing in preparation for the summer Performing Arts Evening.

LIV (Year 8)

Autumn Term

Music theory; Ravel’s Bolero; Indian musical culture (including workshop outing); singing in preparation for Harvest festival, Remembrance Day and carol services; song composition, word setting, syncopation.

Spring Term

Blues, including: singing St Louis Blues and listening to Chris Barber, New St Louis Blues; identifying aurally the 12 bar pattern in the intro, verse, chorus, 4/4 time, instruments; writing 2 line verses, playing 3 triad pattern using syncopation and swing; improvising using the Blues scale; Indonesian musical culture.

Summer Term

Film music; 8 bar melodic composition using triads I, IV, V, using 2&4 bar phrases, dotted rhythms; revision for summer examinations; music for Royal occasions, including Fireworks Music and Water Music by Handel.

Opera (concert outing to Royal Opera House); World Music, including Samba & Reggae.

Summer Term

Popular Music, including Rap, Rock, Pop and Jazz; revision for summer examinations; music technology.

Last Night of the Proms from the Royal Albert Hall, including Land of Hope and Glory, song composition and word setting; Schools Prom concert trip to Royal Albert Hall; Theme and Variation.
