Queen’s Gate artsy collaboration with award-winning Old Girl

Posted on 25 September 2017 by Miss Amy Hinds, Communications Officer

Queen’s Gate Old Girl and illustrator Katie Ponder (OG 2002-09) has won Glyndebourne’s prestigious annual Tour Art Competition.

Visual artists from all over the world and aged 16 to 29, submitted pieces on the theme of Deception. Katie’s winning piece explored the mask as a symbol of being two-faced whilst referencing the arts and performance. Her illustration will now appear on the cover of over 10,000 copies of the Glyndebourne Tour Programme and the original piece will also be exhibited at Glyndebourne along with those shortlisted. Earlier in 2017 Katie also won the Visitors’ Choice Award at the Folio Society Book Illustration Competition.

The news of this success has come in the same week that a new vinyl timeline, based on the school’s studied literature has been installed in 131 Queen’s Gate. The timelines features 11 new pieces of art commissioned by Queen’s Gate from Katie which are accompanied by the handwriting of current QG pupils. The artwork includes depictions of Beowolf, Mansfield Park, The Handmaid’s Tale and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

We’re thrilled to be working with Katie at this exciting time in her blossoming career.
