QG Quizzing at its Best!

On Tuesday 6 March, Mr Denchfield chaired the annual Junior School PTA Quiz. Eight parents’ teams—along with staff teams from the Junior and Senior Schools—competed for the coveted shield. Would it be retained by the Senior School staff who were victorious last year?
Once team mascots had been sculpted in modelling clay, the quiz began with an exciting picture round, where lateral thinking was key. The teams conferred over the likely meanings of cockney rhyming slang, the owners of blue plaques, and the hidden answers to a mini cryptic crossword.
Later, there was a music round with extracts of pop songs evoking happy adolescent memories. Ronettes were distinguished from Rolling Stones, Madonna from Martika. There also followed a singalong round for which memorable lines from songs such as My Favourite Things had been removed and the teams tried their best to reattach the missing lyrics.
It was a close-run thing, but the Senior School staff were indeed victorious once again, pipping the III Form parents to the post and followed by the Junior School staff in third place. Amidst the competitiveness, a jolly time was had by all. It was delightful to see such good team spirit on show, with Transition parents even creating their own team hats!
