Oh What A Lovely War!

On Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 March, the Senior School Drama Department wowed audiences at the Chelsea Theatre with their production of Oh What A Lovely War.
The ensemble-based musical was written by Joan Littlewood in 1963 and tells the story of World War One through the use of songs and satire, with the whole cast dressed as Pierrots. The incredibly strong company of girls aged from Year 8 to Year 12, showed of a mix of perfect comic timing, from Lweji Lopes Padre, beautiful solos from Catherine Walmsley, Freya Buxton, Charlotte Green and India Watterson and strong stage presence from Diane-Sophie Capelle, Maddie Perry Smith, Sienna Zeitshak and Angelica Meneely during scenes in the trenches, bars and streets.
Playful and comic songs such as Hitchykoo, They Were Only Playing Leapfrog and Sister Susie’s Sewing Shirts, were contrasted by sombre and thoughtful pieces including Rose of Picardy and Keep the Home Fire Burning, and showed the whole range of emotions that the girls evoked on stage.
A huge well done to the cast and production team for putting together a wonderful show!
