III Form Impress At Their Inaugural Mini Model UN Conference

Posted on 26 June 2019 by Miss Emily Acton-Edmiston

On Wednesday 26 June, all III Form girls took part in their first ever mini Model UN conference representing 24 member states of the United Nations.

The morning included a couple of workshops on MUN debating and procedures. All girls had the chance to deliver a policy statement representing the views of their country on the question of free speech on the Internet. The girls also learnt how to construct and debate resolutions which they did with maturity and skill.

The quality of debate was high, showing that many pupils had spent time and effort researching and considering their views. Particularly impressive were Larissa, Eloise and Ella – always speaking in the committee, Beatrix who made a great opening speech and Sophie who ended up taking the floor and answering some tough questions.

Deftly guided by Sixth Formers Laura, Luna and Maria, who take part in frequent MUN activities throughout the year, the debates were well structured and well natured, demonstrating great skills in diplomacy.

“The Mini Model UN was quite an achievement for these III Form pupils, especially given that this issue has continued to exercise the finest diplomatic minds for over half a century! Many congratulations to all the girls who took part in this inaugural Model UN conference”
