A Candlelit Christmas
Posted on 30 November 2018 by Miss Amy Hinds, Communications Officer
The tradition of the Queen’s Gate’s Junior and Chamber Choirs singing at the annual Kids for Kids Candlelit Christmas Concert is one that commences the Christmas season for a lot of attendees.
Held at St. Peter’s Church, Eaton Square on Thursday 29 November, and hosted by television presenter Julie Etchingham, the concert opened with the traditional soprano solo of Once in Royal David’s City, sung by UV’s Kiana Mottahedan.
Junior School Head Girl, Charlotte Capelle, lit the Candle of Hope before the two choirs joined together to sing From the Distant East. Celebrity speakers included television presenter Eamon Holmes, and actor Timothy West. Year 5 pupil, Imogen Gray, was chosen as this year’s special soloist, having passed her Grade 8 violin and piano earlier this year. Imogen perfomed Haydn’s Allegro Moderato from his Concerto in G with calmness and grace.
Other choral highlights included the Junior School singing I would light a candle and the Chamber Choir’s renditions of Jesus Child by John Rutter, and When you Believe, from Prince of Egypt – arranged by Chamber Choir Director, Mrs Mailley-Smith.
A big thank you to Kids for Kids and their Founder Patricia Parker MBE, for inviting us to take part in this wonderful event again this year.
