‘I have enjoyed learning about the Renaissance in music. I like how we get to perform.’ Cecily, IIA (Year 5)
An appreciation of the Arts is evident throughout the School. Music and Drama are highly prized for their intrinsic value and for the part they play in the personal development of each child. A music specialist teaches all year groups. We have a number of choirs in school, a Junior School orchestra, and a range of other musical ensembles; girls are encouraged to develop their musicianship through involvement in these.
Girls may choose from many instruments from Transition (Year 1), and IB and IA (Years 3 and 4) are given a string instrument and instruction free of charge. Pupils may also perform in our Open Day concert and Summer Concert, as well as in informal concerts throughout the year. Our assemblies also provide the opportunity to perform as part of a group or as an individual.
Drama is taught as a timetabled subject and girls may also join the Drama Club. Our annual School Play takes place at Chelsea Theatre and is a lavish, vibrant, high quality production. In recent years, we have staged A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Wind in the Willows and Honk! The Musical.
‘I love the school play because it taught us how real theatres work. You can express how you feel on stage.’ Sophie, IIA (Year 5)
