Great Expectations – Senior School Play
Wednesday 13 March @ 7:00 pm - Thursday 14 March @ 7:00 pm| £8 – £15
This gritty and engaging reimagining of Dickens’ last great novel was adapted for stage by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod in 2005, and was first performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The author’s most unemotional love story is now to be brought to life by our Senior School girls at RADA’s Studio Theatre this March.
The story follows orphan Pip, who meets escaped convict Magwitch at his parents’ graveside, and soon helps the man to evade capture that night.
Having taken a job as a blacksmith, Pip receives an invite from the wealthy Miss Haversham, an old lady jilted on her wedding day as a young girl, and still insists on wearing her beloved wedding dress. Pip falls in love with Miss Haversham’s adopted daughter, Estella, a cold and distant young girl, before being bequeathed a small fortune. Realising his dream of finally having money, he moves to London, shunning his life as a blacksmith for that of a gentleman. His wealth and position changes him, and soon Pip leads a dissipated life full of idleness – all the time Estella proving a challenging part of his existence.
Interesting discoveries take place in Pip’s life, and all is not how it seems on the surface, with secrets emerging and relationships changing throughout the rest of Pip’s life.
Tickets must be booked in advance.
