2011 marks the 120th Anniversary of the founding of our School. This is another important milestone in the history of Queen’s Gate and to mark the occasion, the 120th Anniversary Committee was set up to oversee the year’s events.
The celebrations began in October 2010 when Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller came back to School to address many of her former pupils and friends. The School Hall was packed and everyone agreed that it was a memorable occasion. It was a good opportunity for many Old Girls to come back to School, some for the first time since leaving.
The next event was the Anniversary Ball in the Dorchester Hotel on Saturday, 15th January 2011. This was a splendid occasion with over 220 guests who enjoyed an excellent meal, speeches by Mrs Valerie Hadley, one of our Old Girls, as well as speeches from Fabia Crole, our Head Girl and Philippa James, a member of the Upper Fifth. During the evening, guests enjoyed dancing and an Auction introduced by Emma Forbes, one of our parents. The evening was a tremendous success – and raised £50,000.
On 21st September 2011, we will hold a Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving in St Augustine’s Church in Queen’s Gate, to mark the anniversary of the School’s first day on 21st September 1891. Invitations will be sent out in mid-July to Old Girls on our current mailing list. Should you wish your name to be added and to receive further information and invitations to special events, please contact Louise Wilkinson.
